Moving Beyond Our Peter Pan Culture: The Issues and Solutions – Maggie Hamilton
Part of the path surely is to not only call out the current malaise in society, but to shine a light on better ways to be in the world. Where does our adolescent ache to remain forever young stem from? Adolescence is full of exuberance, but it has a shadow side. Big on self-confidence, children and teens ache to be special, to be right, yet still expect to be bailed out when things go wrong. They like to win regardless - to do what they do, because they can, not because it’s right. Should we fail to leave adolescence, we continue to experience all the vulnerabilities of teen life, leaving us forever blaming and complaining, caught up in erratic self-centred behaviour, and agonising over what we’re meant to do with our lives.
Social researcher Maggie Hamilton gives frequent talks and lectures; is a media commentator and keen observer of social trends. Her books, published in over a dozen countries, include What Men Don't Talk About, the lives of real men and boys; What's Happening to Our Girls? and What's Happening to Our Boys? the current issues boys and girls face; When We Become Strangers on loneliness; and What Happens to Our Kids When We Fail to Grow Up?
Visitors are very welcome. A small donation is greatly appreciated - includes refreshments after the talk. Our large spiritual library is also open (10 - 5 pm) and you are welcome to browse.
