Have you ever wondered how many animal rescue groups there are, how they get started or how they manage to continue saving animals? Come along to hear from two of the founders of an animal rescue in Sydney who will tell us how and why they started their animal charity, Sydney's Animals for Everyone (SAFE Animal Rehoming. Here is a little taste of what they will talk about:
In 2017 a small group of people with a vision banded together to set up a new animal charity in the Northern suburbs of Sydney. They had absolutely nothing except the drive to save animals, and, with the help of some loyal supporters, they started off by caring for animals in their own homes. Fast forward to 2019 and SAFE established a Cat Rehoming Centre in Roseville. After only one year in operation, SAFE Haven was a finalist for 'Outstanding Animal Shelter' in the prestigious Jetpets Awards. This in itself was a huge achievement for a small charity run totally by volunteers!
About the Presentors
Tim Crossman led the movement to set up the charity and even though he had only been working formally with animals for 3 years, his experience running a small business on the Lower North Shore proved to be very valuable. Tim has always been passionate about helping animals great and small. Since working in animal welfare he has completed a Cert IV qualification in Companion Animals (Behaviour) and gained knowledge of, and experience in, animal care across both veterinary and operational areas. He is the President of SAFE.
Sue Barber has been working in the animal welfare industry for over 11 years. Whilst previously working in the corporate sector she spent time volunteering for a large charity and then decided to follow her passion and change direction into paid employment in this field. Sue was there at the beginning, was instrumental in helping to set up SAFE and plays an important part in running the charity.
Together Tim & Sue will give us an overview of the animal welfare sector. They will share their experience setting up Sydney's Animals For Everyone and outline the challenges they face and faced. They will also introduce us to some of the beautiful animals looking for forever homes currently available for adoption on their website.
This talk is of general interest as Animal Welfare is an important community issue which affects everyone. It may also be of particular interest if you are an animal lover and would like to find out more about how you can help.
